Salve Regina University will be holding a blood drive on Thursday and Friday from 12 to 6 pm next week in Ochre Court. The blood drive is open to the public and walk-ins are welcome.
The blood drive is for the Rhode Island Blood Center. Appointments can be made online at their website, www.ribc.org with sponsor code 0199. The Rhode Island Blood Center encourages donators to eat before they give blood and be hydrated.
“Every unit of blood donated saves three lives,” says Jacklyn Parsons, the office manager of Health Services at Salve Regina University.
The turnout for Salve Regina University blood drives account for one-sixth of the blood supply in the state, says Jennifer Whelihan, Account Manager of the Rhode Island Blood Center. The RIBC sets goals for the Salve Regina blood drives and they are always met or exceeded, according to Parsons.
Salve Regina University has been hosting these blood drives for twenty years. Having had many students and faculty participate in the blood drive, Salve Regina held an event in appreciation of those who have donated, says Parsons.
Salve Regina has been involving more people in these events. Recently, the Athletic Department has begun bone marrow drives on campus.
